FORSAKEN FARMHOUSE, by LYDIA HAMMOND GALE First Line: That grayed beam hewn from nearby lot Last Line: Whence all his brood saw life begun. Subject(s): Farm Life; Agriculture; Farmers | ||||||||
That grayed beam hewn from nearby lot Of oaks and other stout-heart trees, The fallen doorway, once erect, Whose foolish angle the lintel frees, And brocade trellis on sunward wall Propped loose to soften lines severe Of cumbrous shutters locked in close, And Titan chimney nook sprawled near, Offer a niche to migrant song And fling a challenge to the sun. The builder left this relic frame Whence all his brood saw life begun. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...KICKING THE LEAVES by DONALD HALL THE FARMER'S BOY: WINTER by ROBERT BLOOMFIELD THE FARMER'S BOY: SPRING by ROBERT BLOOMFIELD THE FARMER'S BOY: SUMMER by ROBERT BLOOMFIELD THE FARMER'S BOY: AUTUMN by ROBERT BLOOMFIELD SPRING SIGNS by LYDIA HAMMOND GALE |
