IMPULSE, by DOROTHY MOORE GARRISON First Line: I know that deep beneath the weary gray Last Line: Seeking lost eldorados on the slopes. Subject(s): Sonnet (as Literary Form); Spring | ||||||||
I know that deep beneath the weary gray Of reaching plains that lie in level folds There is a spark of waking life that holds The quickening soul of spring not far away. Already close to earth in faint array The pale green grass shoots pierce the frozen mold's Fresh loosened crust, beneath uncertain golds Of last year's growth which melted snows display. The ranchers' eager beasts have sensed the spring. With up-flung heads they leave the sheltering hills To lean against the wind that voices hopes That all the later sunny days can bring. I, too, am restless, subject to strange wills, Seeking lost Eldorados on the slopes. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...SPRING LEMONADE by TONY HOAGLAND A SPRING SONG by LYMAN WHITNEY ALLEN SPRING'S RETURN by GEORGE LAWRENCE ANDREWS ODE TO SPRING by ANNA LETITIA BARBAULD ODE TO SPRING by ANNA LETITIA BARBAULD SPRING FLOODS by MAURICE BARING SPRING IN WINTER by CHARLOTTE FISKE BATES SPRING ON THE PRAIRIE by HERBERT BATES THE FARMER'S BOY: SPRING by ROBERT BLOOMFIELD SONNET by DOROTHY MOORE GARRISON |
