AT LAST!, by RICHARD SOLOMON GEDNEY Poet's Biography First Line: I hear the distant murmur of the fountain Last Line: For hope has come to mehas come at last! Subject(s): Memory; Past | ||||||||
I hear the distant murmur of the fountain Flowing in flute-like music down the wind; The voice of torrents on the far-off mountain Sounds like the utterance of a kindred mind. The bees' low monotone floats from the bowers; The ivy rustles like a living thing; The balmy breath of fragrant summer flowers Fans my flushed brow like some kind angel's wing. Soft as the murmur of a maiden dreaming, Ripples the cooing accent of the dove; And all around me here the sunshine streaming, Wavers and quivers like the light of love. Through my worn heart there flows a sound of singing, And on my soul crowd visions of the past, The pulses of my life again are ringing, For Hope has come to mehas come at last! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...FERGUS FALLING by GALWAY KINNELL A TIME PAST by DENISE LEVERTOV LAST THINGS by WILLIAM MEREDITH CHRISTMAS TREE by JOHN FREDERICK NIMS THIS MORNING, GOD by LAURE-ANNE BOSSELAAR ABSENCE by RICHARD SOLOMON GEDNEY AN HOUR WITH FANCY by RICHARD SOLOMON GEDNEY ASPIRATIONS TO THE INFINITE; ADDRESSED TO A FRIEND by RICHARD SOLOMON GEDNEY |
