MEMORIES OF THE PAST, by RICHARD SOLOMON GEDNEY Poet's Biography First Line: While, sad and solemn, through the pines Last Line: And future time appals me! Subject(s): Memory | ||||||||
While, sad and solemn, through the pines The evening breeze is stealing, And evening's star so sweetly shines, And evening bells are pealing, Then, yet again my fancies turn Where they should dwell no longer, For thee in vain my love will yearn Through sorrow growing stronger; Then thoughts of bygone days arise, Love's memories come o'er me, While tears of anguish blind my eyes, For vainly I deplore thee! Though wrapped awhile in Love's sweet dream, How soon stern sorrow found me; How brief those hours of joy now seem, How long grief's chain hath bound me! Oh, Life seemed ever crowned with flowers, With young love smiling o'er us; In vain I mourn those happy hours Time never can restore us! Now, hope is past, and love lies dead, Whose memory still inthrals me, And thoughts of happiness are fled, And future time appals me! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...MEMORY AS A HEARING AID by TONY HOAGLAND THE SAME QUESTION by JOHN HOLLANDER FORGET HOW TO REMEMBER HOW TO FORGET by JOHN HOLLANDER ON THAT SIDE by LAWRENCE JOSEPH MEMORY OF A PORCH by DONALD JUSTICE BEYOND THE HUNTING WOODS by DONALD JUSTICE ABSENCE by RICHARD SOLOMON GEDNEY AN HOUR WITH FANCY by RICHARD SOLOMON GEDNEY ASPIRATIONS TO THE INFINITE; ADDRESSED TO A FRIEND by RICHARD SOLOMON GEDNEY |
