MIDSUMMER NIGHT THOUGHTS, by RICHARD SOLOMON GEDNEY Poet's Biography First Line: The full moon's mild and silvery light Last Line: What joy 'twould bring to me! Subject(s): Hearts; Love; Night; Silence; Thought; Bedtime; Thinking | ||||||||
THE full moon's mild and silvery light Is poured o'er field and flood; The crested waves are flashing bright, And silent stands the wood; For not a single leaf is stirred So still the summer air; Nor sound of wrong or strife is heard, To mar this scene so fair. Methinks by fairy feet is brushed The grass all wet with dew; Methinks all would not be so hushed To ears of favoured few; Yet, borne on air, there floats the voice Of the distant murmuring stream, How can my heart fail to rejoice In such a lovely scene? Yet ever 'mid this scene so fair, My heart still turns to thee; Feels, if thou wert but here to share, What joy 'twould bring to me! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...MILLE ET UN SENTIMENTS (PREMIERS CENTS) by DENISE DUHAMEL SUNDAY AFTERNOON by CLARENCE MAJOR I BROOD ABOUT SOME CONCEPTS, FOR EXAMPLE by ALICIA SUSKIN OSTRIKER EASY LESSONS IN GEOPHAGY by KENNETH REXROTH GENTLEMEN, I ADDRESS YOU PUBLICLY by KENNETH REXROTH ON FLOWER WREATH HILL: 1 by KENNETH REXROTH ABSENCE by RICHARD SOLOMON GEDNEY AN HOUR WITH FANCY by RICHARD SOLOMON GEDNEY ASPIRATIONS TO THE INFINITE; ADDRESSED TO A FRIEND by RICHARD SOLOMON GEDNEY |
