YE SHALL LIVE ALSO, by CHRISTIAN FURCHTEGOTT GELLERT Poet's Biography First Line: Jesus lives! No longer now Last Line: Thou wilt be my confidence! Variant Title(s): Easter Hymn Subject(s): Easter; Holidays; Jesus Christ; The Resurrection | ||||||||
Jesus lives! no longer now Can thy terrors, Death, appall me; Jesus lives! and well I know, From the dead He will recall me; Better life will then commence-- This shall be my confidence. Jesus lives! to Him the throne Over all the world is given; I shall go where He is gone, Live and reign with Him in heaven: God is pledged; weak doubtings, hence! This shall be my confidence! Jesus lives! henceforth is death Entrance into life immortal; Calmly I can yield my breath, Fearless tread the frowning portal; Lord, when faileth flesh and sense, Thou wilt be my confidence! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...EASTER EVE by FRANCIS WILLIAM BOURDILLON EASTER SUNDAY by LUCILLE CLIFTON GOD SEND EASTER by LUCILLE CLIFTON NOT THE CUCKOLD'S DREAM; FOR SAM PEREIRA by NORMAN DUBIE EASTER HYMN by GEORGE SANTAYANA I DEFINE THE DARKNESS CORRECT: THE FESTIVAL OF THE FRERES LUMIERES by ELENI SIKELIANOS SPANISH EASTER: 1926 by CONRAD AIKEN THE BLIND AND THE LAME by CHRISTIAN FURCHTEGOTT GELLERT |
