WALL-FLOWER, by EDNA GILLESPIE First Line: To you who like slender lances Last Line: That we may sparkle among the dead. Subject(s): Dancing & Dancers | ||||||||
To you who like slender lances, Sway your way through the dances. We who sit along the wall, Dull and quiet as an old gray shawl, Seem but futile and absurd, As you flash by with careless word; We turn and nod with frozen grin And a bitter prayer deep within That the gods may smite and grind All that beauty to powder, and bind A starry atom to our head That we may sparkle among the dead. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...FAMED DANCER DIES OF PHOSPHORUS POISONING by RICHARD HOWARD ROSE AND MURRAY by CONRAD AIKEN A DANCER'S LIFE by DONALD JUSTICE DANCING WITH THE DOG by SUSAN KENNEDY SONG FROM A COUNTRY FAIR by LEONIE ADAMS THE CHILDREN DANCING by LAURENCE BINYON VARIATIONS: 13 by CONRAD AIKEN |
