POSSESSION, by PEMBERTON GINTHER First Line: Only to the night wind will I tell my Last Line: This core of sorrow that is mine alone? Subject(s): Lament | ||||||||
Only to the night wind will I tell my sadness As it goes moaning, moaning Along the low-hung eaves; None, then, will know if it is my sighing Or the slow rustle of the thick ivy leaves. Only in bright silence will I make my lamentation, In a stillness that is shining, shining With joys that delay; None, then, will know that it is my heart crying That makes such a silence in the glowing day. Only with laughter will I do my mourning, In a voice that is singing, singing In no requiem tone; How should I cheapen with tears and with keening This core of sorrow that is mine alone? | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...ELEGY ASKING THAT IT BE THE LAST; FOR INGRID ERHARDT, 1951-1971 by NORMAN DUBIE ELEGY FOR WRIGHT & HUGO by NORMAN DUBIE ELEGY TO THE PULLEY OF SUPERIOR OBLIQUE by NORMAN DUBIE THE ELEGY FOR INTEGRAL DOMAINS by NORMAN DUBIE BRAVURA LAMENT by DANIEL HALPERN THE UNPEOPLED, CONVENTIONAL ROSE-GARDEN' by KENNETH REXROTH |
