HILLTOP, by LAURA M. GRADICK First Line: The heights are best for vision Last Line: We can commune with god. Subject(s): Mountains; Hills; Downs (great Britain) | ||||||||
The heights are best for vision, Above life's sordid care The soul can stretch her pinions And breathe the clearer air. Look over hills and valleys, And lakes of turquoise blue -- The calm of open spaces Comes with the peaceful view. Here poems of ageless beauty And songs to stir mankind To deeds of love and daring Come trooping to the mind. Here, high upon the hilltop, Where ancient pine trees nod And point the way to heaven, We can commune with God. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...CALIFORNIA SORROW: MOUNTAIN VIEW by MARY KINZIE CONTRA MORTEM: THE MOUNTAIN FASTNESS by HAYDEN CARRUTH GREEN MOUNTAIN IDYL by HAYDEN CARRUTH |
