MUSIC ON THE TIN ROOF, by GERALDINE FAY GRAY First Line: The snow is melting - eaves begin to drip Last Line: Just water dripping on the roof in spring. Subject(s): Music & Musicians; Snow | ||||||||
The snow is melting -- eaves begin to drip In varied tones on metal roof below; At first, in meter hesitant and slow, Then quickening as warm sun breaks the grip Of winter's cold. Then fast and faster trip The vibrant notes, pitched high and sweet, or low, To form a mystic melody, till Oh, I almost see the fairies dance and skip! So when the snow is gone, the soft spring rain Trips dainty notes in quick staccato beat, And one may closely follow the refrain, As drip on drip a pattern they repeat On instruments of neither wind nor string: Just water dripping on the roof in spring. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...BRIGHT SUN AFTER HEAVY SNOW by JANE KENYON SNOW FALLING THROUGH FOG by WILLIAM MATTHEWS THE SNOW FAIRY by CLAUDE MCKAY NOT ONLY ESKIMOS by LISEL MUELLER YOUR HANDS by ANGELINA WELD GRIMKE |
