MOONLIGHT PICTURE, by CHARLOTTE G. FRIETSCH GUNTER First Line: Have you ever seen the fireflies dance by moonlight Last Line: That come to me on shining rays from distant star. Subject(s): Beauty; Night; Bedtime | ||||||||
Have you ever seen the fireflies dance by moonlight, -- Among the daisies and field grasses high? With the soft shadows of nightfall walked I Ecstatic in spirit, -- held spellbound by the sight Of the glittering dance with brush and sage And the field daisies, as a fitting stage. Have you ever walked through a field of daisies by moonlight, While whippoorwills whistled their melody While owls from forest depths called forth lustily? Often I have strolled down a path I shaped 'mongst flowers bright, To live with glittering creatures of the night, -- Their song of silence and moments of their quiet. Have you ever heard in moments of silent night, When on the wings of the wind whispers sigh, -- As if sweet voices from heaven drew nigh? When I wander through my fields 'neath starry light, I seem to understand voices from afar That come to me on shining rays from distant star. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE BREATH OF NIGHT by RANDALL JARRELL HOODED NIGHT by ROBINSON JEFFERS NIGHT WITHOUT SLEEP by ROBINSON JEFFERS WORKING OUTSIDE AT NIGHT by DENIS JOHNSON POEM TO TAKE BACK THE NIGHT by JUNE JORDAN COOL DARK ODE by DONALD JUSTICE POEM TO BE READ AT 3 A.M by DONALD JUSTICE |
