TO DEATH, by MARGARET HALEY First Line: Oh I can say with my lips Last Line: (preserve me always, oh god, as now!) Subject(s): Death; Dead, The | ||||||||
Oh I can say with my lips -- "Death," And I can think in my brain -- "Death," But I cannot feel in my heart -- "Death," So it beats too fast, and I catch my breath, And I test my faith with the word "death": For the only death that I feel now Is impersonal -- (I am young now) -- It's the death of the summer I feel now As much as gladness and youth allow. That's the only death that I feel NOW.
