She was a little old lady in a faded dress,
And she sat at the close of day,
Humming a tune as she rocked and rocked,
Out in the twilight gray.

Crinkly her hair, like lamb's wool,
And wrinkled her smiling face;
But the Holy light in those dancing eyes
Made the yard a hallowed place.

I started in, but hadn't the heart
To stop that joyful song;
'Twas Christmas Eve, her cakes were done,
And SONNY was coming home!
