She was a little old lady in a faded dress, And she sat at the close of day, Humming a tune as she rocked and rocked, Out in the twilight gray. Crinkly her hair, like lamb's wool, And wrinkled her smiling face; But the Holy light in those dancing eyes Made the yard a hallowed place. I started in, but hadn't the heart To stop that joyful song; 'Twas Christmas Eve, her cakes were done, And SONNY was coming home! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...DIFFERENT VIEWS; A CHRISMAS DUET by JOSEPH ASHBY-STERRY AN UNMERRY CHRISTMAS by AMBROSE BIERCE CHRISTMAS IN CHINATOWN by AUGUST KLEINZAHLER CHRISTMAS TREE by JOHN FREDERICK NIMS ISAIAH'S COAL by JOHN FREDERICK NIMS SOUNDS OF THE RESURRECTED DEAD MAN'S FOOTSTEPS (#3): 1.
