INGRATITUDE, by GERTRUDE HANSON First Line: He comes from nazareth,' they said, and bent Last Line: The christ is silenced on a cross of greed. Subject(s): Jesus Christ | ||||||||
"He comes from Nazareth," they said, and bent Their heads to whisper scornfully. "How can Good come from such a lowly place? The man Speaks blasphemy. Away with him!" They lent Their tongues to slander; and with argument They met his plea for love and brotherhood Until the Christ, reviled, misunderstood, Was silenced on a cross of hate. Content, The plotters gloated in their might. . . . Disdain And scorn are heaped today on God-sent men Who walk among us. And, today, as then, The plotters argue endlessly to gain Their selfish aims. While brothers die in need, The Christ is silenced on a cross of greed. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE GREEN CHRIST by ANDREW HUDGINS MEDITATION ON SAVIORS by ROBINSON JEFFERS COMPANIONSHIP by MALTBIE DAVENPORT BABCOCK TO A WREN ON CALVARY by LARRY LEVIS THE TRANSFIGURATION by EDWIN MUIR SOUNDS OF THE RESURRECTED DEAD MAN'S FOOTSTEPS (#3): 1.
