AUTHORS, WE GREET THEE, by LULA ENSLEY HATTON First Line: Authors, today as a nation we bring Last Line: Let only love remain. Subject(s): Authors & Authorship; Writing & Writers | ||||||||
Authors, today as a Nation we bring Long-delayed tribute -- gladly we sing Praises to all who have shared with mankind Treasures of heart and mind. Voices long hushed still inspire and allure -- Through preserved pages of literature -- Offering courage to spirits aflame, Greater than passing fame. Lift up the torch, light the way, time is speeding; Nations in peril, for leaders are pleading. Chorus Spirit of Peace, make our every refrain True to the ideals of sons that were slain. Grant inspiration to women and men Till sword obeys the command of the pen. Crucify selfishness, vain pride restrain, Let only love remain. Writers who've made one heart glad on life's way We would remember, this Authors' Day, Those who defend home and Country in peace, Honor and strength increase. Thus we express and all due honors give Those who turn thoughts into words that can live; Ready to cheer us each day in the year, Like friends we hold most dear. To God and home there can be no retreating; Enlist for service and work while repeating: Chorus Spirit of Peace, make our every refrain True to the ideals of sons that were slain. Grant inspiration to women and men Till sword obeys the command of the pen. Crucify selfishness, vain pride restrain, Let only love remain. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE CELL, SELECTION by LYN HEJINIAN OXOTA: A SHORT RUSSIAN NOVEL: CHAPTER 126: THE DOUBTING MAN by LYN HEJINIAN WAKING THE MORNING DREAMLESS AFTER LONG SLEEP by JANE HIRSHFIELD COMPULSIVE QUALIFICATIONS by RICHARD HOWARD DEUTSCH DURCH FREUD by RANDALL JARRELL LET THEM ALONE by ROBINSON JEFFERS ON BUILDING WITH STONE by ROBINSON JEFFERS SPIRITUAL ISOLATION: A FRAGMENT by ISAAC ROSENBERG |
