Who would not live among the hills When sunrise fills The morning hours With song of birds and scent of blowing flowers: When Nature's herald blows the matin horn To drowsy morn And in the fen The chirping cricket rasps his call again? Who would not live among the towering hills When sunshine spills Its radiant glow On verdant pines and nodding flowers below; And fatted kine are sleeping in the glade Beneath the shade Of maple trees That nod and rustle in the gentle breeze? Who would not live among the towering hills When sunset stills The hum of bees And birds are homing to their nesting trees; While in the quiet of the stilly eve The shadows weave Across the sod A picture by the master artist -- God? | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...CALIFORNIA SORROW: MOUNTAIN VIEW by MARY KINZIE CONTRA MORTEM: THE MOUNTAIN FASTNESS by HAYDEN CARRUTH GREEN MOUNTAIN IDYL by HAYDEN CARRUTH IF IT WERE NOT FOR YOU by HAYDEN CARRUTH |
