ISAIAH: 33. 17, by FRANCES RIDLEY HAVERGAL Poet's Biography First Line: Thine eyes shall see! Yes, thine, who, bind erewhile Last Line: Thine eyes shall see! Subject(s): Bible; Religion; Theology | ||||||||
THINE eyes shall see! Yes, thine, who, blind erewhile, Now trembling toward the new-found light dost flee; Leave doubting, and look up with trustful smile -- Thine eyes shall see! Thine eyes shall see! Not in some dream Elysian, Not in thy fancy, glowing though it be, Not even in faith, but in unveiled vision, Thine eyes shall see! Thine eyes shall see! Not on thyself depend God's promises, the faithful, firm, and free; Ere they shall fail, earth, heaven itself, must end: Thine eyes shall see! Thine eyes shall see! Not in a swift glance cast, Gleaning one ray to brighten memory, But, while a glad eternity shall last, Thine eyes shall see! Thine eyes shall see the King! The very same Whose love shone forth upon the curseful tree, Who bore thy guilt, who calleth thee by name; Thine eyes shall see! Thine eyes shall see the King! the mighty One, The many-crowned, the Light-enrobed; and He Shall bid thee share the kingdom He hath won; Thine eyes shall see! And in His beauty! Stay thee, mortal song, The "altogether lovely" One must be Unspeakable in glory, -- yet ere long Thine eyes shall see! Yes! though the land be "very far" away, A step, a moment, ends the toil for thee; Then changing grief for gladness, night for day, Thine eyes shall see! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...MYSTIC BOUNCE by TERRANCE HAYES MATHEMATICS CONSIDERED AS A VICE by ANTHONY HECHT UNHOLY SONNET 11 by MARK JARMAN SHINE, PERISHING REPUBLIC by ROBINSON JEFFERS THE COMING OF THE PLAGUE by WELDON KEES A LITHUANIAN ELEGY by ROBERT KELLY CONSECRATION HYMN by FRANCES RIDLEY HAVERGAL I DID THIS FOR THEE!
