THE CABIN AT THE END OF THE ROAD, by HELEN HAYNES First Line: On the banks of gull lake in wisconsin Last Line: I'll take the cabin at the end of the road. Subject(s): Fish & Fishing; Anglers | ||||||||
On the banks of Gull Lake in Wisconsin, Beneath the birch and the pine Stands a little old gray cabin, Built by a friend of mine. And when the nights are sultry, And it's ninety in the shade, We like to go down and visit One of the best pals God ever made. As we sit on the porch in the moonlight, And watch the lake rise and fall, From a pine tree right above us, Come the sad notes of a whippoorwill's call. And as we sit and listen, Hoping to hear it repeat, A deer stalks out in the open Making the picture complete. Then dawn softly comes stealing, And the sun rises like a flame in the skies, This is a place to dream about, A fisherman's paradise. So if I had my choice of a mansion, Or a promise of gold, I'd say not for me, I'll take the cabin at the end of the road. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...JOURNEY INTO THE EYE by DAVID LEHMAN THE GREAT BLACK HERON by DENISE LEVERTOV ISLA MUJERES by WILLIAM MATTHEWS SCHOOLS OF LITTLE FISH by MARVIN BELL TWO PICTURES OF A LEAF by MARVIN BELL OF FISH AND FISHERMEN by JOHN CIARDI THE ELEPHANT by HILAIRE BELLOC |
