STENOGRAPHER, by SYLVIA HEEN First Line: Last night at 9:10 I efficiently climbed a desk-shaped hill Last Line: "tonight..." | |||
Last night at 9:10 I efficiently climbed a desk-shaped hill. I saw the moon almost as white as a letter sheet Set in an ink-washed sky of carbon-blue. I heard a voice which briskly asked If the man in the moon was still in conference. "Not in," I answered. Whoever it was left no message. I heard the rustling of the trees below Like the sound of noiseless typewriters (Which really aren't). Business is better tonight, I thought. If I could only take down everything I feel In shorthand! Transcribe all this! All I could seem to do Was yell at the absent man in the moon And try to spell old form-letter words And think of you, "Dear Sir: "I'm very truly yours, Tonight..." | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...PETITION OF AH LAN by SYLVIA HEEN THE ITINERANT POET'S ROAD SONG by KAREN SWENSON FIRST BOOK OF AIRS: SONG 7 by THOMAS CAMPION PICTURES FROM APPLEDORE: 5 by JAMES RUSSELL LOWELL TO MY EXCELLENT LUCASIA, ON OUR FRIENDSHIP. 17TH JULY 1651 by KATHERINE PHILIPS DECEMBER 31ST by LASCELLES ABERCROMBIE OUT OF THE SHADOW by MARGARET FAIRLESS BARBER BRITANNIA'S PASTORALS: BOOK 2.
