GROWING OLD, by LUCY HALL HENLEY First Line: One by one the years have fled Last Line: Our smiles and our tears. Subject(s): Aging | ||||||||
One by one the years have fled With their joys and sorrows; Loving memories for the past, Hopes for the tomorrows. Years roll on, we older grow, Ripening like the grain, Needing all life's discipline Through pleasure and through pain. May we grow lovely, growing old, Grow mellow with the years. We, like the flowers, need sun and showers -- Our smiles and our tears. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...AFTER THE GENTLE POET KOBAYASHI ISSA by ROBERT HASS MEMORY AS A HEARING AID by TONY HOAGLAND AMOROSA AND COMPANY by CONRAD AIKEN GRAY WEATHER by ROBINSON JEFFERS FROM THE SPANISH by JAMES WELDON JOHNSON |
