CROWNED, by MARY FRANCES HILL First Line: It was a most wonderful poem Last Line: In his heart young and fair. Subject(s): Passion | ||||||||
It was a most wonderful poem, So though a true lover of poetry He knew the author must be young; Beautiful and fair, "So thought he." She wrote of the April rain Coaxing May flowers to bloom again Of summer when the month of June Brought forth the most beautiful Sight, "Roses in bloom." Autumn that dressed the trees in raiment gay Only to be blown by the wind away When the snowflakes of winter come Whirling down making a shroud of white For the things that lay dead on the ground. His heart filled with passion He would search for her everywhere; When found she would be his bride, His queen, he'd crown her with A crown of jewels rich and rare. At last he found her in a wheelchair, Just a "little old lady"; upon her Wrinkled brow, that the most priceless jewels In beauty could never compare Was a crown of snow white hair. The passion left his heart leaving Only reverence and honor there; He knew as long as life would last That "little old lady" with the crown Of snow white hair would live forever In his heart young and fair. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...APPULDURCOMBE PARK by AMY LOWELL FIVE ACCOUNTS OF A MONOGAMOUS MAN by WILLIAM MEREDITH ON PASSION AS A LITERARY TRADITION by JOHN CIARDI LES GRANDES PASSIONS MANQUEES by IRVING FELDMAN IN THE DAYS OF PRISMATIC COLOR by MARIANNE MOORE |
