I WALK WITH BEAUTY, by IYDA REBECCA HIRSH First Line: My lovely garden of flowers and grass was once a desolate spot Last Line: How beautiful are the morning glories round my kitchen door! Subject(s): Beauty; Flowers; Gardens & Gardening | ||||||||
My lovely garden of flowers and grass was once a desolate spot. Weeds held sway ... a low place here ... a barren terrace there. But the very ruggedness proved a snare ... a dream was caught, In a web my fancy spun. Now flowers bloom every-where. Imperfections became as loving arms holding beauty rare. Lilies and ferns are cradled in the cool, low places; Rocks of many hues and forms, cover the once bare Terraces, and from in between peep daisy and pansy faces. My garden is small, but within its leafy bound wall My restless soul has found peace. Thoughts as well as flowers Have grown and bloomed, and the petty worries of life fall From my mind like dust to the ground after April showers, As I gaze at a dewdrop in the sun, or behold the miracle of a rose, "I walk with beauty," as the Navajos' sing: "Beauty behind me, beauty before." We are all free agents to choose weeds or flowersstrife or repose.
