A CHILD'S THOUGHTS AT MIDNIGHT, by ETHEL HOLDRIDGE First Line: The hours go swiftly flying past Last Line: The universe to god. Subject(s): Night; Bedtime | ||||||||
The hours go swiftly flying past With fingers locked together; The sun and moon toil night and day No matter what the weather; Forever is a long, long time And so is Eternity -- Throughout the whole, wide Universe, I am the only Me. My thoughts, like hours, go fleeting by, Until with sleep I nod; I close my eyes and, henceforth, leave The universe to God. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE BREATH OF NIGHT by RANDALL JARRELL HOODED NIGHT by ROBINSON JEFFERS NIGHT WITHOUT SLEEP by ROBINSON JEFFERS WORKING OUTSIDE AT NIGHT by DENIS JOHNSON POEM TO TAKE BACK THE NIGHT by JUNE JORDAN COOL DARK ODE by DONALD JUSTICE POEM TO BE READ AT 3 A.M by DONALD JUSTICE ROUND ABOUT MIDNIGHT by BOB KAUFMAN |
