Quite suddenly --
Just the sight of you come back
Made it spring again, and I was young,
And life was a hazy thing
Of beautiful dreams and forms.
Ancient thrills pulsed anew
... At first.
When I looked again the day was grey.
The wind whisked the strands
Of your grizzled hair harshly,
And everything was hard reality ...
Bleak ... cold ...
And I was old.
