FAITH, by OLIVE HONN First Line: Against the somber sunset, as the day went down Last Line: "the sureness of destination of those brave free birds today." Subject(s): Faith; Belief; Creed | ||||||||
Against the somber sunset, as the day went down, I saw a wedge-shaped arrow above the darkening town. I saw another at midnight, and heard their far-flung cry, Always, always southward toward sheltering hills they fly. Toward sun and warmth and shelter, with faith and sure intent, No fear of storms tomorrow, no fear of strength far spent. To the Captain of trackless journeys I breathed a little prayer: "Bring them to safe harbor, these wildings of the air. Give man in his lesser wisdom, as he gropes an uncharted way, The sureness of destination of those brave free birds today." | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...UNHOLY SONNET 4 by MARK JARMAN QUIA ABSURDUM by ROBINSON JEFFERS GOING TO THE HORSE FLATS by ROBINSON JEFFERS SONNET TO FORTUNE by LUCY AIKEN JONATHAN EDWARDS IN WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS by ROBERT LOWELL RELIGIOUS INSTRUCTION by MINA LOY IN THE GARDEN AT THE DAWN HOUR by EDGAR LEE MASTERS |
