A ROBBER OF THE NIGHT, by GLADYS TRACY HORNBECK First Line: The farmer hid in his cornfield Last Line: A father fainted at the feet of his son! Subject(s): Crime & Criminals | ||||||||
The farmer hid in his cornfield, To catch a robber of the night. Somebody was stealing his summer's yield, And he planned to give somebody a fright! It was two o'clock in the morning, When the robber came driving in; The farmer cocked his gun in protecting, Beside his determined chin! He gave the robber time to load, Fingering the trigger of his gun; When the wheels of the wagon turned toward the road, A father fainted at the feet of his son! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE LANDLADY OF THE WHINTON INN TELLS A STORY by AMY LOWELL THE MORE A MAN HAS THE MORE A MAN WANTS by PAUL MULDOON SUMMER SOLSTICE, NEW YORK CITY by SHARON OLDS MARRYING THE HANGMAN by MARGARET ATWOOD IN PHARAOH'S TOMB by HAYDEN CARRUTH DOMESDAY BOOK: CHARLES WARREN, THE SHERIFF by EDGAR LEE MASTERS POOR DEVIL! by STEPHEN VINCENT BENET |
