OREGON IN OCTOBER, by VIOLET M. HOWARD First Line: Vining maple burning red Last Line: One wanders through october. Subject(s): Autumn; October; Seasons; Fall | ||||||||
Vining maple burning red On the slopes amid the timber, Pungent odor of mold in the nostrils While the foothills grow dimmer Each day in the autumnal haze. Golden and orchid clouds Above the fir green tips cover the sun, As the sparkling rivers enter The ocean and become one With a jade-green hue. As the purpling, shadowed meadows Repose at the foot of snow-clad peaks, Rouged with rose, and the higher snowcaps Bathed in crimson -- nature has heaped Her paint-pot on Oregon in the fall. Deer grazing in the clearings, Salmon jumping in the streams, Evening pleasant as in springtime, Mornings frosty and cool -- as in a dream One wanders through October. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...OUR AUTUMN by ELIZABETH AKERS ALLEN AN AUTUMN JOY by GEORGE ARNOLD A LEAF FALLS by MARION LOUISE BLISS THE FARMER'S BOY: AUTUMN by ROBERT BLOOMFIELD A LETTER IN OCTOBER by TED KOOSER AUTUMN EVENING by DAVID LEHMAN EVERYTHING THAT ACTS IS ACTUAL by DENISE LEVERTOV |
