THAT DAY NO WALL, by
First Line: I was not born so short awhile ago
Last Line: Beneath the pyramid.

I was not born so short awhile ago,
I cannot put a line through that small date,
Say there this blood began to circulate,
This flesh to grow.

The hands within my restless mind have reached
Into the years piled deep upon the floor
Of time that sang through veins that sing no more,
Of bones now bleached.

My heart has felt emotions that they knew,
Has pulsed exuberance, exalted song,
Touched love, held hate, known effort overlong,
Though years were few.

Ah, I have felt at times as Shelley did,
Have seen white Helen standing on a wall,
My mind has touched the prayer, the pain, and all
Beneath the Pyramid.
