TITAN'S JEWEL, by RUTH HUGHES First Line: The lake has the lustre of shadowed metal Last Line: Catching the day like a titan's jewel. Subject(s): Rain | ||||||||
The lake has the lustre of shadowed metal -- Silver, dappled with mirrored night; This blur of evening, the pale storm light, Soon in the dark of the water will settle. There will be falling gently, petals Of flowering rain; and the after glare Of lightning, brief on the blackened air; And the water circles of sinking petals. Lover of rain and the crudded sky -- Dancer before the awaking wind -- Dance till the wind shall close its eye, The rain flowers wither, and a darkness end -- And then lie bright in the morning-cool, Catching the day like a Titan's jewel. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...DISTANT RAINFALL by ROBINSON JEFFERS CHAMBER MUSIC: 32 by JAMES JOYCE HEAVY SUMMER RAIN by JANE KENYON CROWD CORRALLING by MARGARET AVISON THE RAIN-POOL by KARLE WILSON BAKER ON THE GREAT ATLANTIC RAINWAY by KENNETH KOCH |
