JUNE NIGHTS, by VICTOR MARIE HUGO Poet's Biography First Line: When the long day dies in summer and flowers are closing Last Line: Lurks all night long low down on the skyline gray. Subject(s): June; Night; Summer; Bedtime | ||||||||
WHEN the long day dies in summer and flowers are closing, They scatter their odours that thrill thro' the drowsy sense, And our eyelids fall, while the sense, alert, lies dozing And behind our slumber we gaze thro' a cloudless lens. Then the stars are brighter, the dark has more soft concealment, And over the dome of heav'n is a hue of day, And the shy, dim dawn, awaiting the sun's fulfilment, Lurks all night long low down on the skyline gray. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE BREATH OF NIGHT by RANDALL JARRELL HOODED NIGHT by ROBINSON JEFFERS NIGHT WITHOUT SLEEP by ROBINSON JEFFERS WORKING OUTSIDE AT NIGHT by DENIS JOHNSON POEM TO TAKE BACK THE NIGHT by JUNE JORDAN COOL DARK ODE by DONALD JUSTICE POEM TO BE READ AT 3 A.M by DONALD JUSTICE ROUND ABOUT MIDNIGHT by BOB KAUFMAN A COUP D'ETAT; AN INCIDENT IN THE NIGHT OF DECEMBER 4, 1851 by VICTOR MARIE HUGO |
