TIMBERLINE, by CLINTON RINGGO HULL First Line: As stern old baldy's gleaming crown of white Last Line: Forging ever on to our shining goal. Subject(s): Perseverance | ||||||||
As stern old Baldy's gleaming crown of white Descends to halt the struggling pines below; Who stand knee-deep, defiant, in the snow, Somber sentinels guarding day and night Their gains, hard-won against the storm-god's might In endless battle with their ruthless foe; Unbeaten, holding fast through fearful woe; Upright, heroic figures in God's sight. So does the mantle of misfortune's shroud Attempt to smother and harass the soul. But as the pines defy the blustering cloud, Refusing to retreat or pay his toll, So must we march, our battered heads unbowed, Forging ever on to our shining goal. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...AT THE LOS ANGELES COUNTY MUSEUM OF ART by EDWARD FIELD DON'T FRET NOW by SIMON J.
