TO MY MUSE, by GERNIE HUNTER First Line: Think not that I have broken faith, my dear Last Line: Of maddened waves, against a rock lined shore. | |||
Think not that I have broken faith, my dear, Since I no longer sue the favors you Alone can give. I bide my time, subdue The haste that I once knew. To persevere Might drive you from my side, or weave a sheer And empty phrase to shame ourselves anew -- You take your quiet leave without ado, And why should I regard your conduct queer? I only pause that you may test your wing, Then come a willing captive to my door Where we shall spin bright lines that softly sing A lullaby, across the open moor; Or rugged lines, that grasp and hold the ring Of maddened waves, against a rock lined shore. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE MAGIC OF ROADS by GERNIE HUNTER SONG FOR THE FIRST OF THE MONTH by DOROTHY PARKER THE STATE OF WYOMING by KAREN SWENSON THE FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH: A DREAM OF PONCE DE LEON by HEZEKIAH BUTTERWORTH SECOND OPINION by STEPHEN CUSHMAN THE CATARACT OF LODORE by ROBERT SOUTHEY WHEN THE SULTAN GOES TO ISPAHAN by THOMAS BAILEY ALDRICH ALMOND BLOSSOM by EDWIN ARNOLD |
