WI' blythe an' merry tinkle, the bit bonnie wimplin' burn Jinks through its banks o' cowslips, wi' mony a jouk an' turn; Wi' mony a jouk an' turn, like a young thing free o' care, Whaur I'll meet my Jess the nicht, in the glen doon there. In the glen doon there, in the glen doon there, I'll meet my bonnie Jessie in the glen doon there! There's trig an' dainty lassies baith at hame an' far awa', But for nane I care a preen, for my Jess owre-caps them a' -- For my Jess owre-caps them a'; she's juist ane beyond compare; An' I'll meet her at the gloamin', in the glen doon there. For she's stown my heart awa' wi' her saft bewitchin' een: Sae I've trysted wi' Mess John, an' I bocht the ring yestreen -- I hae bocht the ring yestreen, an' my heart's as licht as air, For I'll wed my Jess the morn, in the glen doon there. Though we canna brag o' gear, nor hae binks o' gowden ore, We've nae herds o' kye or sheep, but we've wealth o' love in store -- We hae wealth o' love in store; sae a fig for Daddy Care, When link'd for life thegither, in the glen doon there. In the glen doon there, in the glen doon there, To bonnie winsome Jessie, in the glen doon there! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...A BLESSING FOR A WEDDING by JANE HIRSHFIELD A SUITE FOR MARRIAGE by DAVID IGNATOW ADVICE TO HER SON ON MARRIAGE by MARY BARBER THE RABBI'S SON-IN-LAW by SABINE BARING-GOULD KISSING AGAIN by DORIANNE LAUX A TIME PAST by DENISE LEVERTOV |
