ECSTASY, by IRMA THOMPSON IRELAND First Line: No need have I for drink but my desire for thee Last Line: For death is sweet if this be paradise! Subject(s): Heaven; Paradise | ||||||||
No need have I for drink but my desire for thee, Nor food require save thy desire for me. No home have I but thy enclosed arms, Thy lips on mine to still the heart's alarms. Bring me no flow'rs, love's magic incense bowl With every scent of Araby perfumes my soul. Sing not to me; for jangling in my ears Sweet bells of Heav'n ring madly through my fears. Grieve not that Love must come in beggar's guise; Thy lips again! 'Tis thus a goddess dies! Do not awake me, pray, but kiss my closed eyes; For Death is sweet if this be Paradise! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE END OF LIFE by PHILIP JAMES BAILEY SEVEN TWILIGHTS: 6 by CONRAD AIKEN THE BOOK OF THE DEAD MAN (#19): 2.
