NOCTURNAL LAMENT, by MATTHEW KAMM First Line: Sounds of the evening Last Line: That I now hold in my possession. Subject(s): Lament | ||||||||
Sounds of the evening Dripped from the leaves And whispered, in the dusk, Words of those spirits, Lost, in the search for peace. Tragic chords of minor tones Cried plaintively in my ears; Terror gripped those twisted souls Burnt dry from the fires of search. Their dying tones In the distance clear No longer reach the weary mind; But when the sun Shall trumpet the day This music returns, This time to stay And become for me a paean of triumph, Begotten and wrenched from Weary spirits and pain-racked bodies Who gave their years For these ugly abstracts That I now hold in my possession. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...ELEGY ASKING THAT IT BE THE LAST; FOR INGRID ERHARDT, 1951-1971 by NORMAN DUBIE ELEGY FOR WRIGHT & HUGO by NORMAN DUBIE ELEGY TO THE PULLEY OF SUPERIOR OBLIQUE by NORMAN DUBIE THE ELEGY FOR INTEGRAL DOMAINS by NORMAN DUBIE BRAVURA LAMENT by DANIEL HALPERN THE UNPEOPLED, CONVENTIONAL ROSE-GARDEN' by KENNETH REXROTH |
