THE VISION, by SUSAN M. KANE First Line: She was there; she was there Last Line: Though some one may say I was spellbound with spring. Subject(s): Vision | ||||||||
She was there; she was there, I give you my word; And she rode through the air On the song of a bird. And her shimmering robe was an ivory sheen, Bud-blown with crab-tree pink and green. Oh, a queen, and most fair! I stood watching her go, With her glory of hair In a wind-wafted flow, Like a gossamer veil of clear amber hue, All ready to melt into far-reaching blue. I saw her; I saw her -- I whisper you this -- Set the whole world astir With a mischievous kiss, Which she threw with a touch of exquisite grace, From lips that were dimpling her wild-flower face. Then marshes -- I saw them -- Lay trembling in green, And hillsides a-gem, And the valleys between, Went a-nid and a-nod as if in a dream; And lily-bells rang on the banks of a stream. And forests -- I saw them -- Spread fans to the breeze, To cool the hot flush That ran through the trees. And a butterfly gayly teetered the air Till ripples entangled the lovely queen's hair. She was there; she was there, I give you my word; And she rode through the air On the song of a bird. No matter to me, to my vision I'll cling, Though some one may say I was spellbound with Spring. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE MERCY SEAT by NORMAN DUBIE TOO BRIGHT TO SEE by LINDA GREGG NORMAL LIGHT by ALICIA SUSKIN OSTRIKER LANDSCAPES (FOR CLEMENT R.
