FIXED MOMENTS, by GEORGE RICHARD KAYTON First Line: We saw the sunset in the evening sky Last Line: The wealth that youth had spent on careless pleasure. | |||
We saw the sunset in the evening sky Unfolding blossomwise upon the air: The wind was herding (to some hidden lair) White changing clouds that seemed to multiply As they were pushed in vats of western dye ... And when the sun climbed down its crimson stair, We drew together in a silent pair And found the answer to love's urgent cry ... In later years beside a lonely fire, These are the moments that the heart will treasure; And once again enchanted old desire Will fill the brain to subtle overmeasure; And dreaming, age will suddenly acquire The wealth that youth had spent on careless pleasure. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...NOCTURNAL QUESTION by GEORGE RICHARD KAYTON REQUIEM by GEORGE RICHARD KAYTON UNNECESSARY by GEORGE RICHARD KAYTON A JAPANESE FAN by MARGARET VELEY LONDON, 1802 (2) by WILLIAM WORDSWORTH PEARLS OF THE FAITH: 21.
