TIDES, by INEZ BARCLAY KIRBY First Line: Once more you journey outward, weary tide Last Line: Must vanish with the ebb tide's old despair. Subject(s): Tides; Water | ||||||||
Once more you journey outward, weary tide, Your questing waters moving toward the sea. What is it that you seek eternally, And, failing, seek again unsatisfied? In the night hours I heard your voice that cried Along the sedgy marshes wistfully, And thought how beautiful your dream must be That baffled through the years, has never died. Oh, sea, my own unquiet, restless heart Echoes your anguish. My tumultuous blood That surges high when life is glad and fair Knows that the transient glory must depart, Knows that the exaltation born of flood Must vanish with the ebb tide's old despair. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...STARS WHICH SEE, STARS WHICH DO NOT SEE by MARVIN BELL WASHING OUR HANDS OF THE REST OF AMERICA by MARVIN BELL WATER, WINTER, FIRE by MARVIN BELL |
