UNTOUCHED AND UNDEFILED, by L. KATHLEEN KITTERMAN First Line: I have not let the flight of days erase Last Line: The melody we wove in happier days. Subject(s): Love; Sonnet (as Literary Form) | ||||||||
I have not let the flight of days erase The imprint of your love; nor shall the years Find me impoverished, as one who hears -- Breaking the dull monotony of space -- The echo of a song that brings no trace Of recognition to the listener's ears; For poor and beggared though my heart appears It yet shall sing the high notes of love's grace. So say, "Goodbye," and let our fragile song Remain a sacrament the heart can take, Untouched and undefiled, down distant ways, Where memory may kneel when nights are long. Though time may cry, "Forget!", it cannot break The melody we wove in happier days. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...WAS THAT REALLY A SONNET? by ANSELM HOLLO RETICENT SONNET by ANNE CARSON SONNET: OF THREE GIRLS AND OF THEIR TALK by GIOVANNI BOCCACCIO WHAT THE SONNET IS by EUGENE JACOB LEE-HAMILTON ON A MAGAZINE SONNET by RUSSELL HILLARD LOINES THE HOUSE OF LIFE: THE SONNET (INTRODUCTION) by DANTE GABRIEL ROSSETTI OCTOBER DAWN by L.
