STARVELINGS, by FLORINE KITTS First Line: A pair of starvelings, hunger - mad, we two Last Line: A pinioned dream you fondle in your hand. Subject(s): Desire; Hunger | ||||||||
A pair of starvelings, hunger-mad, we two Have loosed ourselves to feed, to strike our wake Night upon night ablaze with flame of blue From the burning crucible of love, to break Into transcendent fire of deathless glow. Assuage the ravaged fever of my throat That's parched by barren waiting, sere and slow, For kisses which have rivered my blood and smote My heart with fertile silences bereft Of utterance. I am love-illumed But hunger-stricken still. What have I left Of me desire of you has not consumed: My life, a sea that surges on your sand, A pinioned dream you fondle in your hand. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...SEVERAL MEASURES FOR THE LITTLE LOST by NORMAN DUBIE THE CORNUCOPIA OF RED AND GREEN COMFITS by AMY LOWELL BIOLUMINESCENCE: 1.
