FROM old to new, with broadening sweep, The stream of life moves on; And still its changing currents keep A changeless undertone. In prophet word and martyr faith, Visions of saint and seer, The poet's song, the hero's death That undertone we hear. A sense we have of things unseen, Transcending thing of time; We catch earth's broken chords between The everlasting chime. And light breaks through the rifted haze In shining vistas broad; We stand amid the eternal ways, Held by the hand of God. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE RABBI'S SON-IN-LAW by SABINE BARING-GOULD A LITTLE HISTORY by DAVID LEHMAN FOR I WILL CONSIDER YOUR DOG MOLLY by DAVID LEHMAN JEWISH GRAVEYARDS, ITALY by PHILIP LEVINE NATIONAL THOUGHTS by YEHUDA AMICHAI SOUNDS OF THE RESURRECTED DEAD MAN'S FOOTSTEPS (#3): 2.
