AMOURETTE, by BEATRICE LAGONE First Line: Because we steal this nectar, sire Last Line: May triumph, dear, when other dreams are broken. Subject(s): Mary. Mother Of Jesus; Women In The Bible; Virgin Mary | ||||||||
"Because we steal this nectar, Sire, Canst thou, with honesty say, 'Tis unfit for the Gods?" Was it with ecstasy akin to this That Mary felt the stirring of the child Beneath her heart, and knew it undefiled For Heaven's touch had sanctified such bliss? Just so my loved one has your tender kiss Wakened in me a passion, wild and shy, Though I, like timid Peter, thrice deny, Or more than thrice, since truth is deemed amiss. Thus when I say that life is sweet and good The love that makes it so must not be spoken, Yet in such radiant reflection should Be found a perfect semblance of its token; And ecstasy that has enduring stood May triumph, dear, when other dreams are broken. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...MADONNA by KATHARINE LEE BATES BALLADE TO OUR LADY OF CZESTOCHOWA by HILAIRE BELLOC OUR LORD AND OUR LADY by HILAIRE BELLOC PLASTIC BEATITUDE by LAURE-ANNE BOSSELAAR A SONG OF MARY by LUCILLE CLIFTON ISLAND MARY by LUCILLE CLIFTON MARY'S DREAM by LUCILLE CLIFTON THE BIRTH OF VENUS by HAYDEN CARRUTH |
