THE WREATH ON THE DOOR, by SARA F. LANE First Line: There's a wreath on the door Last Line: "oh come and adore." Subject(s): Christmas; Nativity, The | ||||||||
There's a wreath on the door Of holly and pine, The little red berries With green intertwine, And I know as I pass That there's much joy inside, For the wreath on the door Bespeaks Christmastide. There's a wreath on the door Of galax and white. The perfumes of flowers With the green leaves unite To tell as I pass That there's sadness in there, And that wreath on the door Whispers low, "vacant chair." Now the wreath, as the ring From traditions of old, Is symbol of endless, The eternal, we're told; And whether the wreath Is of galax or holly, Whether inside be grief, Or hearts that are jolly, May it say to the world As it hangs on our door, "The Christ Child is born, Oh come and adore." | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...DIFFERENT VIEWS; A CHRISMAS DUET by JOSEPH ASHBY-STERRY AN UNMERRY CHRISTMAS by AMBROSE BIERCE CHRISTMAS IN CHINATOWN by AUGUST KLEINZAHLER CHRISTMAS TREE by JOHN FREDERICK NIMS ISAIAH'S COAL by JOHN FREDERICK NIMS SOUNDS OF THE RESURRECTED DEAD MAN'S FOOTSTEPS (#3): 1.
