SILENCE, by DAVID HERBERT LAWRENCE Poet Analysis Poet's Biography First Line: Since I lost you, I am silence-haunted Last Line: Down the noise of men. Alternate Author Name(s): Lawrence, D. H. Subject(s): Silence | ||||||||
SINCE I lost you I am silence-haunted, Sounds wave their little wings A moment, then in weariness settle On the flood that soundless swings. Whether the people in the street Like pattering ripples go by, Or whether the theatre sighs and sighs With a loud, hoarse sigh: Or the wind shakes a ravel of light Over the dead-black river, Or night's last echoing Makes the daybreak shiver: I feel the silence waiting To sip them all up again In its vast completeness drinking Down the noise of men. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...A SONG OF SILENCE by LOUISA SARAH BEVINGTON TANKA DIARY (9) by HARRYETTE MULLEN 7 A.M., A MAN AND A WOMAN by LAURE-ANNE BOSSELAAR THIS MORNING, GOD by LAURE-ANNE BOSSELAAR A BABY ASLEEP AFTER PAIN by DAVID HERBERT LAWRENCE |
