AN ODE TO A MOUNTAIN, by VIRGINIA LEPORIN LEACH First Line: O age-old mountain tall and grand Last Line: As pure and rugged, mount, as thine! Subject(s): Mountains; Hills; Downs (great Britain) | ||||||||
O age-old mountain tall and grand, The cynosure of all the land -- So gaunt, impressive, nobly high A silhouette against the sky. When twilight shades are falling fast Thy purple shadow softly cast Illumes the hills which for a time Reflects the grandeur that is thine. A symbol of His might you stand, A masterpiece from God's own hand. I would to have this life of mine As pure and rugged, Mount, as thine! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...CALIFORNIA SORROW: MOUNTAIN VIEW by MARY KINZIE CONTRA MORTEM: THE MOUNTAIN FASTNESS by HAYDEN CARRUTH GREEN MOUNTAIN IDYL by HAYDEN CARRUTH IF IT WERE NOT FOR YOU by HAYDEN CARRUTH |
