AN ODE TO A MOUNTAIN, by
First Line: O age-old mountain tall and grand
Last Line: As pure and rugged, mount, as thine!
Subject(s): Mountains; Hills; Downs (great Britain)

O age-old mountain tall and grand,
The cynosure of all the land --
So gaunt, impressive, nobly high
A silhouette against the sky.

When twilight shades are falling fast
Thy purple shadow softly cast
Illumes the hills which for a time
Reflects the grandeur that is thine.

A symbol of His might you stand,
A masterpiece from God's own hand.
I would to have this life of mine
As pure and rugged, Mount, as thine!
