THE SUMMIT, by MARY SINTON LEITCH Poet's Biography First Line: Why should you seek to scale mount everest? Last Line: Sublimely I shall stand alone with god. Subject(s): Everest, Mount | ||||||||
"Why should you seek to scale Mount Everest?" They cry who blind and dreamless cannot know What fires of glory and of splendor glow Upon that lonely height, who think the crest And summit of the world a waste of snow, A wilderness -- no more, who have not guessed It is the Peak of Vision where the quest Shall end with stars and suns to crown the brow. Oh, I shall laugh to see the moon arise And look upon me with a startled gaze! Monarch of earth, invader of the skies, Triumphant I shall sing my diapase. While far below men crawl in clay and clod, Sublimely I shall stand alone with God. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...ON EVEREST THERE ARE PINK CONCEALED by JAMES HARRISON FANNY BRAWNE by MARY SINTON LEITCH IDENTITY by MARY SINTON LEITCH IN A RAILWAY STATION by MARY SINTON LEITCH JOHNNY ONIONS by MARY SINTON LEITCH MOON-LIT MIST by MARY SINTON LEITCH MY NEIGHBOR COMPARES HER HOUSE WITH MINE by MARY SINTON LEITCH NIGHTFALL ON THE LYNNHAVEN by MARY SINTON LEITCH ON BEING TOLD THAT MY CHILD RESEMBLES ME by MARY SINTON LEITCH |
