No book can tell that Something going between Two lovers' hearts, within each other's arms; Its drawing urge, occultest of all charms, Its deep command, from sources felt, unseen. No vision yet takes in all it may mean Of sweetness, that excludes the power of harms, Of peace beyond all peril or alarms, And purity divine our stains to clean. It reaches back too far for us to guess Its roots and fountains, but its force we know; It seems to draw together sky and sod, Has all the power from all life's gifts to bless, Of all the flowers on earth to bloom and blow -- In Silence voices oldest word of God. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE MOUNTAIN IS STRIPPED by DAVID IGNATOW AS CLOSE AS BREATHING by MARK JARMAN UNHOLY SONNET 1 by MARK JARMAN UNHOLY SONNET 13 by MARK JARMAN BIRTH-DUES by ROBINSON JEFFERS THE SILENT SHEPHERDS by ROBINSON JEFFERS GOING TO THE HORSE FLATS by ROBINSON JEFFERS ANYWHERE, NOWHERE by JOHN WILLIAM LLOYD WHAT MY LOVER SAID by HOMER GREENE THE VANITY OF HUMAN WISHES; THE 10TH SATIRE OF JUVENAL, IMITATED by SAMUEL JOHNSON (1709-1784) |
