A TRIBUTE TO MUSIC, by JANE E. W. LOCKWOOD First Line: When music fills the soul of man Last Line: O music, life of man defend. Subject(s): Singing & Singers; Songs | ||||||||
When music fills the soul of man There is no room for sin So open wide your heart-door, friend, Let music dwell within. Oh, that we this glorious gift Employ to magnify The God who gave His Son that we Might live and never die. For songs like deeds will win the soul Of man beset with ill. So sing the songs of love and home The hungry spirit fill. With thoughts that cheer, cast out all gloom And we can help you know, By singing songs that thrill the heart And make the pale cheek glow. Blest music, man's inspiring friend, Up to thy starry throne ascend And with you souls of man will trend, O music, life of man defend. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE APOLLO TRIO by CONRAD AIKEN BAD GIRL SINGING by MARK JARMAN CHAMBER MUSIC: 4 by JAMES JOYCE CHAMBER MUSIC: 5 by JAMES JOYCE CHAMBER MUSIC: 28 by JAMES JOYCE THE SONG OF THE NIGHTINGALE IS LIKE THE SCENT OF SYRINGA by MINA LOY UNTITLED, 1968; FOR MARK ROTHKO by JAMES GALVIN TO A MAN WORKING HIS WAY THROUGH THE CROWD by MARIANNE MOORE INGRATEFUL [OR UNGRATEFUL] BEAUTY THREATENED by THOMAS CAREW |
