AFTER, by HANIEL (CLARK) LONG Poet Analysis Poet's Biography First Line: If I had to face my grief Last Line: Forever safe from a farewell. | |||
If I had to face my grief For those I love who now are dead, Remembering a Stoic belief Or what some ancient Cynic said, From day to day I could not go As one who goes from dark to light, Nor could I know what now I know Of Shapes that keep away from sight. It was our lingerings to say All sorts of things we could not tell, Which made them sure they still might stay Forever safe from a farewell. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...A SEA MAIDEN by HANIEL (CLARK) LONG AFTER A CITY WINTER by HANIEL (CLARK) LONG AGAINST THE RISING MOON by HANIEL (CLARK) LONG AND THEN I SAW A MAID by HANIEL (CLARK) LONG APRIL, 1917 by HANIEL (CLARK) LONG ASCUTNEY by HANIEL (CLARK) LONG BARAKEESH by HANIEL (CLARK) LONG CONFIDENCES by HANIEL (CLARK) LONG |
