HOSPITAL NURSERY, by ETHEL GODFREY LOUD First Line: Purity - whiteness - spotlessness! Through glass Last Line: Past -- present -- future -- in the hand of fate! Subject(s): Babies; Birth; Hospitals; Infants; Child Birth; Midwifery | ||||||||
Purity -- whiteness -- spotlessness! Through glass I gaze lest some taint of the outer air May stealthy, unpremeditated, pass And harm the precious bundles lying there, Swathed in their wrappings, soft as thistle-down. Traces of kin peep from each tiny face. Here is a wrinkled brow with thoughtful frown. There anger rages, then to smiles gives place. The Past lies here -- our buried roots displays. The Present -- bundle wrapt, we're yet to see. The Future, tendril-reaching divers ways -- The line of growth? Potentiality! No wonder all the room's inviolate! Past -- Present -- Future -- in the Hand of Fate! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...WHY I AM AFRAID OF TURNING THE PAGE by CATE MARVIN ACCIDENTS OF BIRTH by WILLIAM MEREDITH ONE FOR ALL NEWBORNS by THYLIAS MOSS CURRICULUM VITAE by LISEL MUELLER |
